The girl behind the madness

Getting To Know Andrea Hoogendoorn

Mad Mod Shop™ offers a cherry picked collection of happy, vintage-inspired looks + pretty things.  The collection features a mix of retro-inspired designs and classic silhouettes for the avid vintage fashion lover. Featuring a timeless collection of flattering pin-up inspired dresses, skirts, tops, swimwear, accessories and lots of other pretty little things, this boutique is a one-of-a-kind destination. A Sonoma County native, owner Andrea DeTrinidad, has a background in design and a passion for 50’s style and 60’s mod fashions. She has traveled to many fashion markets to create a curated collection of vintage-inspired brands and accessories, while also working with local makers to create an exclusive in-house collection for the boutique.

My favorite piece in the shop right now is…

Gorgeous handcrafted and handpainted succulent jewelry from a little maker.  They pair amazingly with our Mad Coco Skirt, an exclusive under our own fashion design line.

The first thing I sold in my shop…

A red polka dot swing dress with a matching crinoline petticoat

I knew I wanted to be a Designer when…

I first watched “Sound of Music” as a child and loved when Maria made the children’s clothes out of drapes. It just clicked that fabric could be made in to anything, and with that, a budding ‘Fashionista’ was born.

My ‘go to’ color is…

Black with a pop of color

If I could’ve met any fashion icon from the past, it would’ve been…

Audrey Hepburn

If I could meet any fashion icon from the present, it would be…

Iris Apfel

The best part of my day at the shop is…

Making people smile and twirl in happy clothes. Many of my customers tell me it’s their favorite shop, and nothing feels better than that!

3 words to describe vintage fashion…

  1. Classic
  2. Timeless
  3. Flattering

If I could take a peek at any designers sketches, they’d be…

Hubert Givenchy’s

Words to live by…

“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring”

– Marilyn Monroe

If I could have my clothing on the cover of any magazine, my wish would be…

Vogue

The first piece of clothing I designed was…

A dress in first grade. I had just learned to back-stitch in Girl Scouts and without any draping and patterning skills, ended up with a dress with sleeves that didn’t fit. I tore them off and wore it as a cute little sleeveless dress instead
